25. Typical Grisons House (GR)

The typical Grisons holiday house is a massive stone building with a large roof, small windows and a large entrance door, as usually two families lived under one roof. The window frames, arches and corners of the doors of the building are decorated with so called “graffiti”, consisting of floral, geometric of heraldic ornamental shapes. The small and unevenly distributed windows funnel to the outside so as to let in more light and to avoid heat loss.

The most characteristic room is certainly the Suler, a kind of covered courtyard that connects the barn and the home used as a workplace and meeting place.
